Please help with our employee attitude research!

Hi! The University of Maastricht in the Netherlands is currently deploying a broad, interfacultary research program on employee attitudes. The program unites disciplines from several fields, including economics, psychology and sociology. No research on employee attitudes has yet been performed anywhere on this scale.

The research performed by my colleagues and me of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration is also part of this program and focuses on call center employees. We chose this particular group of employees because we have indications that tasks are relatively comparable between different call center employees. This makes call center employees an excellent population for statistical research into employee attitudes.

We would like to ask anyone involved in call centers here to cooperate with our research. If you would approve, we would like to ask you to inform any call center employees you employ / know about the existence of our Internet survey, which can be found at http://www.student.unimaas.nl/mp.delken/callcenter. The questionnaire does not necessarily have to be answered during work time.

During a pilot research, we have discovered that many call centers are hesitant to let their employees answer the questionnaire. The main reason was that they feared that the results of the study might reflect negatively upon the profile of their company. We would like to assure you that the results of this study will not be communicated in any company-specific way. However, to remove as much statistical variance as possible, it is critical that we differentiate between companies by way of asking the employee where he or she works. Once we have the necessary data, we will give every company a unique code and will remove all company names from our database. This will ensure your anonymity and our quality of research.

If you would like to help us with this program, you can inform your call center employees immediately. That is all you have to do! If you are also interested in the results of this study, please send me an e-mail with such a request, combined with your contact information, and we will send you the results as soon as we have them available. This should be somewhere in the next two months. The results will also include a “managerial implications” section, which might be useful for your company’s management.

In conclusion: if you help us with employee data, we give you very valuable, practical research results that you can use to your companyÂ’s advantage ... for free. Furthermore, you help the academic community gain a deeper understanding of employee attitudes. To us, this sounds like a win-win situation!
