Overtime VS. Additional Hours?
Recently I have been tasked to determine a formula/process for implementing a plea for additional hour versus overtime. Please assume a multi-skill and multi-site environement. In addition, a staff mix of full time and part time agents. Other then running a simulation using WFM tool, are there alternatives for determing the threshold at which one offers additional hours vs. overtime? Thanks for your responses.

Add hrs. vs OT Pay
Hi:
In the USA if your employee works more than 40hrs in a 7 day period, you're required to pay them OT--assuming they're "non exempt". If you're in a crunch for employees and need your PT workers to work longer/more than perhaps you can offer an incentive such as a Visa gift card, or a gift certificate to nearby restaurants, etc, since they won't qualify for the OT pay. If you need your FT employees to work additional hours they're already going to get the OT pay but they may cry that they don't get any incentive like the PT people do, so you may have to give them an incentive too. And of course, none of this may even be necessary if your PT agents are always willing to take on the added hours. Be sure to thank them orally and in writing whatever you do though :) |
