Sick Leave/ Family emergency days
We are a fairly new call centre (not even a year yet). We are currently working on a new attendence policy and are interested in hearing about what other call centres (especially other Canadian ones) are doing. We need help with the policy as a whole but specifically in two areas, the are of Sick leaves, and family emergency days... what are your policies and procedures when it comes to these things?
Thanks, Pam |

Not Canadian, but you don't seem to be getting much response here anyway...Our call center follows the same policy as our entire company, a major financial corporation. That's 8 occasional absenses per year. That could be sick, sick family member, or any emergency at home, such as a hot water heater breaking down. Go over 8 & you could be subject to disciplinary action (discussion, 1st warning, 2nd warning, termination). Hourly (non-exempt from US labor rule) employees are docked after the 8th absence, Salaried exempt employees are never docked, but they never get overtime pay either.
Employees who are out sick five consecutive days are put on short term disability & must have doctor's note to return to work. We don't count disabilities towards disciplinary action
