Sleeping on third shift

Our third shift (11:30pm - 7:30am) has 2 reps scheduled every night. Three individuals make up this shift....all three are moon lighters and I have just learned that all three snooze during this shift. I have written up one of them, because I caught them, but haven't caught the others.

Anyone face a similar situation? Any ideas on how to stop this, I can't fire them....yet. I can't put in a hidden cam....boss won't allow it....I can't move them to another building that houses other activity during the night.

So I'm hoping someone has other ideas to share.

If this does not affect their performance it should not be an issue. However, if it affecting their performance then in time it will take care of itself. I don't mean to sound trite, but this is typically a shift that is difficult to fill. You could also try engaging them more in the business. (Example: Solicit work for them from other departments to keep them busy. You may also have them do some online training to further enrich their career).

Good Luck,

Moe

Hi Moe,

you can indeed give them off-phone work from other departments or online training, those are of course extra productive.

What we have done is give them a lot of extra playtools. They have a refigerator and microwave, they have a lot of boardgames and a television with dvd player. All of this keeps them awake and in a good mood. Filling this shift is no problem for us because a lot of people like to work this way.
