train the trainer

Hi,I have been a process trainer for 18 months now and i feel that i need to hone my existing skills viz a vis voice and accent training and effective training methods.I am looking for any kind of course which would help me.Also any kind of help in how to effectively gauge trainee performance during training so as pre-empt low performance by the trainees on calls would be welcome.

Thanks ,
David Bowman

Hi David,

I might suggest that you join professional organizations that concern themselves with training. One I have found useful is the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). Their website is http://www.astd.org/astd.

Another resource is your local seat of higher education (College/University etc.); go to the language department and see what they would suggest for specific material/help. I have a friend of mine who is currently consulting with a Panamanian-based out-sourcing call center, developing the same training parameters that interest you. He is a retired Professor of Languages from the US state of Florida. These skills you seek - he seems to believe - are difficult to acheive without formal lingustic training. But, then again - there are exceptions - it seems by the mere fact you are asking questions, perhaps you are the exception to his rule!

Good Luck, Ricky

Hi again, I just spoke with my retired friend and he knows of a linguist specialist on your continent. I can get you his contact points if you desire. I'll check this posting area again this Saturday, March 19th 2005 US eastern standard time.
