Working in the USA? How to go about it from Australia....

My family and I are seriously looking at the prospect of trying to relocate from Australia over to the United States for a number of reasons.

What I was wondering was how hard this is likely to be from a work perspective, and how indeed I would go about trying to facilitate this move.

I have been working in Contact Centres here in Australia for a number of years and have been mainly in management roles relating to both people and technology, from resource planning to telephony.

I would appreciate any advice from people as to the best way to look at this, and whether I would need to organise a green card first, or whether the US has some kind of scheme where a company could sponsor me for a period of time and then I could see what happens after that.

I have been across to the States a couple of times on work related issues with a company I used to work for.

Once again any advice or suggestions, or indeed contacts or offers for interviews, requests for CV or whatever would be extremely appreciated at this stage.

Thanks

Richard

Richard,

I have moved from Australia to the USA, and have gone through the visa process... just about to embark on the green card process. Would have loved advice when I went through it!

To answer your questions, you can be sponsored by a company as long as you have a University degree (called an H1-B Visa). This is probably the easiest way to get started. Once you are here you'll need to get legal advice on the best way to secure a green card.

There are limited jobs available. I know a few Call Center Management recruiting agencies that may interest you.

Feel free to email me with any questions you have: gghavala@ford.com

Regards,

Gethryn
